The Vegas Golden Knights have traded for St. Louis Blues forward Ivan Barbashev in exchange for prospect Zach Dean.

Barbashev is a 27-year-old Russian forward who has seven years of NHL experience. This season he has scored 10 goals and 19 assists for 29 points in 59 games this season. In 2019, he was a key member of the Blues Stanley Cup Championship team along with current Golden Knight Alex Pietrangelo.

Barbashev is in the final year of a two-year deal with an annual cap hit of $2.25 million. The Golden Knights have the available cap space as Mark Stone is currently on LTIR. With the Blues in sell mode, they have traded away Vladamir Tarasenko, Ryan O'Reilly, Noel Acciari, Niko Mikkola, and now Barbashev.

As for Dean, he was a 2021 first-round pick by the Golden Knights who has yet to play an NHL game. The 20-year old forward has 49 points in 38 games this season with Gatineau of the QMJHL. Brendan Brisson is now the only Golden Knight first-round draft pick in the VGK system.
