Vegas Golden Knights president of hockey operations, George McPhee recently joined The Bob McCown Podcast on Feb 13th. There he provided some injury updates on the statuses of two injured Golden Knights players, Mark Stone and Logan Thompson.

It was announced on Feb. 1st that the Golden Knights captain, Stone had his second back surgery in nine months after he was injured in a game against the Florida Panthers on Jan. 12th. The Golden Knights stated that Stone would be out of the foreseeable future, but that they would still try and incorporate him into the team.

McPhee was asked if there was a possibility that Stone could come back for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, which will start around mid-April.

"It's not unreasonable. We have some timelines, it's just, is he going to hit them or not? It's the same with Logan Thompson, is he going to hit them or not?" McPhee responded.

Stone's $9.5 million cap hit makes things interesting for the Golden Knights around the trade deadline as he could be placed on LTIR, which would give the VGK additional cap space to make moves at the 2023 NHL Trade Deadline. McPhee mentioned this complication stating that "if Mark comes back we may not do anything" as the team would not have enough cap space to make a big move.

As for Thompson, he was injured in the third period of a game against the Minnesota Wild on Feb. 9th. He is listed as week-to-week with a lower-body injury and has been spotted walking on his own power at VGK events. McPhee stated the following regarding his injury.

"Not sure how bad. It's going to take some time, he's week-to-week, and there is a timeline. If everything goes right and he hits it, we're good. If not, and it takes longer than that, then that's an issue," said McPhee.

Since Thompson went down Adin Hill has started both games for the Golden Knights and Laurent Brossoit has been recalled. The Golden Knights will play the San Jose Sharks on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at T-Mobile Arena.
