With plenty of cap space to spend due to an unfortunate Mark Stone back injury, the Vegas Golden Knights are primed to add at the 2023 NHL Trade Deadline. San Jose Sharks sniper Timo Meier is one the top forwards available, and according to Kevin Weekes, the Golden Knights are interested.

Weekes mentioned the Golden Knights as a potential trade destination for Meier along with the New Jersey Devils, New York Rangers, and Carolina Hurricanes in a Tweet Thursday morning.

Meier is a dynamic speedy scorer and could easily be the most valuable trade deadline addition to whichever team can land him. With the Bo Horvat and Vladamir Tarsenko trades setting the asking price for a top forward at the deadline, the price tag is a high one.

The Islanders traded Anthony Beauvillier (roster player), Aatu Raty (prospect), and a conditional 2023 1st-round pick for Horvat, who they recently re-signed to an eight-year deal. The Rangers just traded Sammy Blaid (roster player), Hunter Skinner (prospect), a conditional 2023 first-round pick, and a conditional 2024 fourth-round pick, for Tarasenko.

Meier has been a Golden Knights villain in his seven years in the NHL. He has scored 51 points in 52 games this season and is a former 9th overall pick in 2015. The 26-year-old Swiss forward has one year left on his $6 million AAV deal and will be an RFA in the summer.

Given his stature, cap hit, and the fact he is on a division rival, the Golden Knights will have to swing big to trade for Meier.

According to PuckPedia, The Golden Knights currently have roughly $1.129  million in cap space but can increase that number to $10.6 million by putting Stone on LTIR.
