Golden Knights Roundup: Eichel Skates With Team, Korczak and Froese Recalled

The Vegas Golden Knights held an optional morning skate practice on Sunday at City National Arena. Jack Eichel was seen skating with the team in a blue no-contact jersey. The 26-year-old superstar forward has missed the last ten games with a lower-body injury that he appeared to tweak against the Detroit Red Wings in early December. He is not expected to play in the team's next game against the Colorado Avalanche on Monday.

Defensemen Daniil Miromanov is now out with a lower-body injury as he blocked a shot against the Nashville Predators on Saturday.

Byron Froese and Kaedan Korczak have been recalled from the Henderson Silver Knights, and Sheldon Rempal has been re-assigned.

Froese was a 2022 free-agency signing by both Knights franchises. He has 116 games of NHL experience, with the most coming in his rookie year with the Toronto Maple Leafs where he scored five points in 56 games. This season with the Silver Knights, he has 21 points in 32 games played. Head coach Bruce Cassidy says he expects to play Froese at center, and move Jake Lechyshyn to the wing.

"(Byron is a) solid 200-foot player, good in the circle, he has been around, so he is competitive. His details are good. There is no dynamic part to his game, but there are no deficiencies either… We will probably move Jake (Leschyshyn) to the wing and leave him in the middle," said Cassidy.

With Miromanov out, Cassidy expects Korczak to play alongside Brayden McNabb, who did not receive any additional discipline after being kicked out of the Golden Knight's Saturday game against the Predators. Korczak is a 2019 second-round pick of the VGK, 21 years old, and has one game of NHL experience.

"I think with Korczy (Kaedan Korczak), like a lot of the young guys, what we will be looking for is just consistent play and to help us win… He will slowly integrate himself into playing against NHL players," said Cassidy.

Per the NHL's media site, Alec Martinez has been placed on IR, which gives the VGK a roster spot to bring up both Froese and Korczak.

The Golden Knights will play the Colorado Avalanche on Monday at 6:00 p.m. on the road.
