Golden Knights Relentless Against the Blues, Win in Shootout

The Vegas Golden Knights (24-11-1, 49 points) defeated the St. Louis Blues (16-16-2, 34 points) in the shootout 5-4 to usher in two points before the team's holiday break. Jonathan Marchessault missed the game with an upper-body injury and is considered day-to-day. Pavel Dorofeyev was recalled and placed on the team's third line with Jake Lesschyshyn and Jonas Rondbjerg. Here is how the scoring went down Friday night.

FIRST PERIOD

  • 1-0 VGK GOAL- roughly six minutes into the game Alex Pietrangelo joined the Golden Knights rush and scored on a nice backhander.

SECOND PERIOD

  • 1-1 STL GOAL- The Blues answered in the second period, with Pavel Buchnevich scoring in the slot.
  • 2-1 VGK GOAL- Mark Stone and the Golden Knights first line scored again with Stone scoring on a rebound given up by Jordan Binnington.
  • 2-2 STL GOAL- On the powerplay, the Blues tied the game as Vladamir Tarasenko fired one home in the slot on Logan Thompson.
  • 3-2 STL GOAL- A weak wrist shot from a sharp angle beat Logan Thompson as the Blues took the lead with Justin Faulk scoring.
  • 3-3 VGK GOAL- Nicolas Hague made a couple of good plays to keep the puck in at the Blue line which led to Mark Stone setting up Michael Amadio.

THIRD PERIOD

  • 4-3 STL GOAL- Noel Acciari deflected in a long shot from Brandon Saad to propel the Blues to a 4-3 lead.
  • The Golden Knights were down one late in the game and on the powerplay. Logan Thompson was pulled to give the team a six-on-four advantage.
  • 4-4 VGK GOAL- Alex Pietrangelo's shot missed the net but Chandler Stephenson found the loose puck to tuck it in and give the VGK a lead.

OT/SHOOTOUT

  • No goals were scored in overtime, so the Golden Knights and Blues took to a shootout.
